"My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for He has been mindful of the humble state of His servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
for the Mighty One has done great things for me -
holy is His name.
holy is His name.
His mercy extends to those who fear Him,
from generation to generation.
He has performed mighty deeds with His arm;
He has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
Has has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
He has helped His servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
to Abraham and his descendants forever,
even as He said to our fathers."
- Luke 1:46-55.
Mary's Word section of the Word, and as a young-ish person, is particularly amazing. She sure had the Lord on her heart. That is always a treat to read. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYes, Cary Jo, what a remarkable young woman God entrusted this most important ministry to! She must have been someone incredibly special ...
DeleteI have been pondering long The Magnificat
ReplyDeleteand here is your lovely post
God is speaking loud!
Loud and clear, sometimes gentle, sometimes bold. But yes. He is always speaking to us, inviting us to something deeper. Thank you, Firefly Friend for dropping by this afternoon!
DeleteBeautiful! Mary's servant heart is such a picture of true surrender. Lord, may I follow you with this same spirit.
ReplyDeleteAmen and amen, Lyli. Surrending all to Him, right here, right now. There's no better way to embrace this season in all its beauty and hope ...
DeleteThanks for sharing The Mothers Carol, Linda. It is so appropriate for this season. Have a blessed Sunday!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping in, Trinity ... it's good to see you again! I hope your Sabbath is rest-filled and joyful ...
DeleteTonight at a concert Michael Card pointed out that it was Luke who recorded Mary's words. He took time to hear her experience. We are blessed to have the different perspectives of the 4 gospels. I love having insight into Mary's obedience and trust in God, her humble nature.
ReplyDeletePeace and joy as we enter this advent season!
I like what you said about taking time to hear her experience, Carol. I'm guessing that Luke must have been just as busy in his life as we are in ours! What a much-needed takeaway in the midst of the crazyness that we're swept into, with so many struggling with real hurt and pain ... Now, to be aware of and fully present to the people that God sends onto our paths.
DeleteI love how she believed without seeing - and had faith in this journey God invited her to. " The Might one has done great things for me" - where she was at that moment sure didn't look great - but I love how she saw His plan in faith!
ReplyDeleteYes ... and that she was most likely quite young ... the discernment, the faith, the trust! Absolutely incredible.
DeleteThanks for coming by and visiting this weekend, my Blue Cotton friend ...
This passage reads just like a Psalm, beauty and wisdom joined in a song of praise... Your title is right on. It drew me in immediately.
ReplyDeleteCarol away, Linda,
HBHW
Caroling, praising, thanking Him I am today. I'm being more purposeful in walking through Advent this year than ever before, paying attention to readings, Scripture, solitude, prayer, journaling. God has given us so much through His Son ... and Mary was His chosen handmaiden.
DeleteAwesome!
Thanks, HBHW, for spending a bit of your Sabbath at Creekside!
;-}
Happy Sunday! I'm resting today~suffering from a bad cold. Have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteBe well soon, sweet Sabbath lady! Rest, rest, rest!
Delete;-}
The magnificat is always so beautiful. thank you
ReplyDeleteDon't you love that Mary's baby is our Savior ... and that she was obedient to this very earth-shaking call on her life? Would I have been that brave at so young an age?
