These learnings have become big-time mantras for me . . .
1. Living a pro-active life can lead to a pathway paved with no regrets. Taking care of any relational / medical / financial / spiritual business before encountering life's inevitable jarring bumps and treacherous valleys enables you to navigate those difficult seasons with greater ease and a deeper sense of peace.
2. Kids might be exhausting, but when all is said and done spending time with them makes life sparkle. If you don't have any little ones 'round about you, you probably won't have to look too far to find one or two who'd love to spend a few hours in your company. And their overloaded parents will most likely be thrilled that you asked.
3. Everyone needs a sabbatical from screens in one way, shape, or form. What might we be missing because our glazed-over eyeballs were stuck to the screen and those weary fingertips were glued to the keyboard?
4. Everything tastes better when you're eating outside. A chicken, spinach, and strawberry salad topped with bacon and grated parmesan. A New York Super Fudge Chunk cone melting all over your hand. A big ol' hamburger fresh off the grill. And how 'bout a frosty pitcher of home-brewed iced tea ... sweetened just enough to bring a smile.
5. Let's quit complaining when someone wants to take our picture. So what if we've got a bad hair day going on or our teeth are crooked or the lens doesn't flatter us like it did back in the day? Let's get rid of our futile airbrushed expectations and invite those carefree kids tucked inside our souls to emerge once again ...

These are all so good, Linda. You catch me with # 5 though: "Let's quit complaining when someone wants to take our picture." I need to do better with that!
ReplyDeleteI know, I know! And yet we're the first ones who want to see the pics, aren't we!!!
DeleteI hope you're enjoying these first weeks of summer. It's so good to re-connect with you, friend.
Hugs.
Linda, I was so grateful you commented on my post so I could visit here today :) Every single one of these is wonderful but I guess #2 resonated with me as you might guess. Kids may be exhausting but YES! they really do make life sparkle! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
ReplyDeleteFrom one grandma to another, I'm hearing you! Enjoy each and every minute ... there'll be plenty of time for a nap later!

Thanks for dropping by this morning!
Everything about this makes me smile! I missed your insights last week, but we all do need to give our eyeballs a break. :)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week!
It's good to be back in gear again! The break was fun, but by the end of the week, I was starting to ache to write again!
DeleteI know you understand ...

Oh yeah ;)
DeleteThese are so wonderful. I read them both quickly and then more slowly -- like Proverbs that need to be revisited over and over. Thank you for linking them at Unforced Rhythms.
ReplyDeleteSo cool to hear that these little thoughts were worth savoring. Thank you, Beth! Your kind words brought me joy ...
DeleteThis is perfect! I just spent a week at the beach with family and that included a two year old and two month old. Yep! I feel young again! Thanks for the reminders!
ReplyDeleteLet's face it. Sometimes we just need to roll up our sleeves and play. Yet one more thing to be grateful for, yes?

Great points - love this! #5 is so hard, but I'm determined to get in the pictures (good and not-so-good) so we don't look back later and say "why isn't Mom in any of these pictures?" Trying to enjoy just being with my kids this summer, even being outside in this heat all day!
ReplyDeleteMy deer-in-the-headlight look has gotten in the way of many decent shots along the way, so I hear what you're saying, Kathryn! I think maybe it was because I was so traumatized by those BIG ol' flashbulbs back in the '50s!
DeleteWhatever.
I guess we just have to relax and get over ourselves! And ... 'say cheese!'
