Loss of hearing is not relegated only to the elderly. Many folks just cannot hear certain tones or sounds. This is true in both the physical world and in the spiritual world.
Some complain that God never speaks; instead of it's being a lack of God's utterance, could it be a hearing problem?
James chapter 1 gives some insight. Verse 21 says, "Get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you."
The word in the original language for "moral filth" can also be translated "ear wax!"
One of James' solutions for hearing God is to rid ourselves of the "ear wax" of sin - bitterness, unforgiveness, nursed grudges, overt disobedience, passive disobedience to God, refusing to do what He has told us to do already.
John reminds us that "If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive our sin."
What a simple solution to a possible "hearing problem" when it comes to the words of God - we need the heavenly Physician to clean our ears.
Are your ears on?
