An Offering of the Heart

. . . Scripture to meditate on

Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23-24

. . . a song to take us there

 video

. . . a prayer to seal these quiet moments with Him

Dear Gracious Lord ~

We put our One Words, our UNwords, our plans and agendas in Your hands.

Our filling calendars, our daily work, our dear families, our endless desires.

Our clawing anxieties, our far-too-real fears, the junk that takes up too much space in our heads.

The useless objects that clutter our homes and empty our wallets.

And all that we clutch at far too tightly.

Take our ugliest sins and our deepest shame.

Our hard won glories and our futile acclaim.

Here's our lives, Lord.

Speak what is true.

How we so badly need to hear what You have to say.

Quiet us, calm us, prepare us so we can clearly discern Your voice.

Strong, loving, wise, and convicting.

Open our hearts wide so we will respond to the truth You long to whisper deep.

Turn us inside out and upside down by Your Spirit.

Make us anew in Your holy image.

In Jesus Name

Amen

  1. Hi Linda! Your whole post reminds me of the blessing of confessing our sins. Getting rid of the things that block us from God's grace so we can gain the peace he longs to give.
I will join you in prayer that our blinders will be removed, so we can dive right into the peaceful waters of his peace. Yay! That's a great plan!
Have a peaceful night my friend,
    Ceil

    1. Dear Ceil - Your thoughtful words remind me of 1 John 1:9 - 'If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.' {Can you tell I grew up memorizing the KJV?!}

Thanks for bringing more of God's Word to the table tonight, friend ... please know that I'm praying for you!

  2. A lot of what you say reminds me of Psalm 51 and David's prayer of repentance and forgiveness. "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me."

    1. Psalm 51. Yes, yes, Bill. I love that prayer. I do hate all the ugliness in our lives that leads us to pray it. But I thank God for redemption and fresh starts.

      Amen, friend.

  3. Beautiful prayer, Linda! One that is exactly what I need to be saying to the Lord ... especially about dearly loved cassette tapes! :) Thanks for the inspiring words that point us in the direction of our gracious Lord.

  4. "Open our hearts wide so we will respond to the truth You long to whisper deep...." listening to the video and am applying this to my "making room" theme or this next season of my life. Hubby is gone for a week on a personal retreat working on his Dr. Ministry project and I have delicious time alone here.

    1. Making room is a compelling invitaition ... for us, for Him. I can't wait to see how this plays out in your life in the months ahead, Carol. I'm grateful that the music is speaking to your heart and pray that your own time of solitude refreshens and enlivens you.

      Have a great week!

    2. Came back to read again. This hits the spot today. "Turn us inside out and upside down by Your Spirit. Make us anew in Your holy image." <<< Yes, yes, yes. Make us anew.

    3. Beth, you're modeling what meditation looks like ... a long slow savor of God and His presence. And coming back again to soak in more of who He is.

I am honored that you have done so. And praise God for His movement in your life.

    1. Journaling in a whole slew of lined books has been where my most honest, real conversations with God have taken place, Anita. And now I'm excited to be praying for and with this online community in this space.

God is so good to have given us so many creative ways to talk with Him ... and spur one another on along the way.

  10. Love that worship song, Linda. It's so joyous and gets me tapping my foot every time I hear it on the radio. :) Thanks for inspiring us to open our hearts to our dear Lord. Our cup overflows when we do!

Welcome to the table, friend!

This is where we gather and hang out. I'd love for you to pull up a chair and jump right into the conversation. Or simply say 'hello.'
