'It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time:

repetitive, loveless, cheap sex

a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage

frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness

trinket gods

magic show religion

paranoid loneliness

cutthroat competition

all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants

a brutal temper

an impotence to love or be loved

divided homes and divided lives

small-minded and lopsided pursuits

the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival

uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions

ugly parodies of community.

... If you use your freedom this way, you will not inherit God's kingdom.'
~ Galatians 5 {The Message}

Ouch, God.
Your powerful Word sure does cut to the core of who we are deep down in our innermost recesses.  We look at this list and right and left we see our self-absorption in black and white.  It's just too stark and ugly to behold.  Like Adam and Eve, we want to run and hide from the raw ugliness of who we are ... apart from Your deeply rich, overflowing grace.
We're convicted and compelled by the steady pursuit of Your loving Spirit.  And we ask You for forgiveness, pure and simple.  We have no other choice ... except a slow and certain spiritual death.
Pour out Your bright shining favor on us.  Only You know how desperately we need it.  And let the vibrant life-giving fruit of Your beautiful Spirit overtake every dead and dying self-obsession.

  1. AMEN, Indeed, Friend!

    Blessed Sabbath!

    1. Resting, resting ... you, me, us together as the family of God. What a refreshing blessing this is!

  2. Hi Linda! Oooh, I love that image of 'shining favor'. I am a sparkle girl for sure. May we all be sparks in the stubble of our faults, to burn away what is not of the Lord.
    Sunday blessings my friend,

    1. Yes, yes, friend! Shine, Jesus, shine ... and burn away all that keeps Your beauty from being clearly seen in our lives!

Thanks, Ceil. You always bring a hope-filled word ...

Welcome to the table, friend!

This is where we gather and hang out. I'd love for you to pull up a chair and jump right into the conversation. Or simply say 'hello.'

l'll be dropping in to visit you sometime soon ...
