The People-Pleasers' Prayer

'So we make it our goal
to please HIM,

whether we are at home in the body or away from it.'
2 Corinthians 5:9

*

Lord, we admit that we're endlessly pulled back and forth by everyone's opinions, expectations, and demands.   We've become way too concerned about what everyone else thinks of us.

People-pleasing seems to run in our blood ... and we're exhausted from dancing to everyone else's tune.

Forgive us from keeping our eyes on everyone else but You.  Help us to clearly focus on what You ask of us.  Give us a joyful satisfaction in our obedience to the direction that You give.  And bid all that noisy clamor from the sidelines far from us.

We yearn to live lightly, to walk freely.  And when all is said and done, it's Your 'well done' we're really longing for.

In Jesus' Name ~
Amen.

  1. Linda,
I am holding these words close..."We yearn to live lightly, to walk freely. And when all is said and done, it's Your 'well done' we're really longing for." Hallelujah and Amen.
Thank you for wise words well written.
    In His Peace,
    Chelle

  2. Such a lovely confession and proclamation, Linda. I chime in with you - as a recovering People-Pleaser myself. I pray I might look for his approval and affirmation alone also.

Weekend blessings to you, my friend.

    1. Isn't it so easy to slip back into that default mode? And how the air clears when get back to focusing on pleasing Him alone.

May this Sabbath strengthen your soul, Pat ... and rest your body, too.

  5. Thank you, Linda, for such a beautiful reminder. Yes, I'm a people pleaser (I'm not proud of it). I think it's cultural as well as genetic. ;-)

    1. Yep, Yuko, whether genetic, or cultural, or learned along the way, this is something most of us face at some point. What we do with this truth is what matters most.

And I love that He gives grace, grace, and more grace. Which only makes me want to please HIM so much more!

Thanks for kickiing off this week with us. I hope that it shines for you!

  6. These words were such a salve for my soul today. I do dance to everyone else's tune too often. But I am praying that we all "live lightly, walk freely" and yearn for God's well done! Beautiful! Blessings!

There is such freedom in that, Linda! I know I'm too often swayed by wondering what other people will think--when what they think isn't what counts. Thanks for getting my week started off right!

    1. Makes me wonder how much energy we've wasted along the way wondering and worrying about everyone else's opinion.

Valuable time that could have been invested in Kingdom work ...

      Sigh.

      I'm convicted ...

  8. Linda, how did you know that this was my prayer today? It's so good to read something that confirms what's been on your heart.
And oh boy, that picture. Sunrises and Sunsets just do me in...love them.

    1. Don't you just love this whole kindred spirit thing that happens in community, Alecia? Sounds like the Lord is speaking to many of us about this exact thing, even though it might play out differently in each of our lives.

      Welcome back, friend!

Welcome to the table, friend!

This is where we gather and hang out. I'd love for you to pull up a chair and jump right into the conversation. Or simply say 'hello.'

l'll be dropping in to visit you sometime soon ...
