The Couples Read Aloud Challenge . . . and a Giveaway

You know how we cuddle up with our little ones, gently huddled close, absorbed in a favorite book?  These are the sweetest of times, intimate in the ways that matter most, the beautiful stuff that memories are made of.

So I'm wondering what it would look like for married couples to do the same.  Where we'd curl up together, reading one to the other.  I wonder what doors to candid conversation and deeper understanding would swing open.  And intimacy in all its wondrous complexity might have a safe chance to take root.  Or bloom anew.  Or maybe take wings.

Ready to go there?  Gary Chapman's brand new The Marriage You've Always Wanted just may be the place to start.  On the issues that hit home for most every marriage.  Dealing with money.  Sex.  In-Laws.  Roles.  Emotions.  And how we communicate about these often fragile topics that wield such power in this lifetime commitment.

And Chapman's not heavy handed, either.  This volume is masterly woven with stories and wisdom and common sense.  I love that he gives us the questions we need to ask ourselves and each other so we can do something with what we're gleaning.  Truth be told, most of us who wear a golden band on our left ring finger know we need to go there.  But the tyranny of the urgent or our fears of emotional intimacy keep us from heading off in that uncertain direction.

But what better way to spend a series of winter evenings ...

Go there, my friend.  I dare you!

I've got a copy for one reader who leaves a comment in the 2 week period from Sunday, February 9th til Sunday, February 23rd.  On any post.  That just might be you!  Please pop back in at 9 pm {eastern} that evening to see if you're the one.  {US and Canada only ... sorry!}

  1. Hi Linda! What a fun idea! I do think some of the most intimate times we have with our children is through reading books. Why not try it with our spouses? I think mine might be as squirmy as a two year old, but why not think about it? It's a great book to bring up on the Eve of Valentine's Day, nice timing!

    No worries about the moderation on comments. I get so much spam..it's crazy! Hope this process helps you and makes it all a smoother for the blog. (don't those people have enough to do???)
    Hope I win the book :)
    Blessings to you, and Happy Valentines Day too,
    Ceil

    1. Good stuff, this is! Most of us need some kind of help along the way ... and we sometimes need a crisis or a good shove to get us motivated to reach out and grab hold of a lifeline. I hope this book will keep people back from the brink of disaster and forge ahead to a healthier love relationship.

      Thanks for coming by this Valentine's Day, Beth! I hope it's a sweet day for you, for yours!
