The Year of Beautiful

Truth be told, I wasn't going to do the one word thing again.  Last year, it wasn't long til the whole concept gently faded into the sunset and rarely made an appearance.  Why bother?

But this video resurrected itself recently.  And the haunting tune and compelling invitation continues to play over and again in my mind, weaving its powerfully sweet tendrils through my expectant heart, wending its way round and round, holding me in a tight embrace of peace-filled assurance.

Beautiful.

That's my word this year.  I will continue to champion hope to those I converse with, to hold this generous invitation of healing and freedom in my outstretched hands.  The truth is that it's only because of Jesus' outstretched hands on the cross that we are not defined by our shame or our sins or the stuff that keeps us far too heavily laden.

We are defined by our Savior.

Beautiful.

What's your word?

  2. Hi Linda. It can take a revelation to show us what God wants us to focus on for the year ahead. I'm so pleased you had this truly lovely word planted on your heart! What a year you will have looking for the beauty in everything around and within you. I love the video! How marvellous to be changed by God's grace and then see ourselves as He sees us.Happy New Year to you! Have a blessed and beautiful one. :) x

    1. Hey Joy ~ Don't you love when God gives you that very clear nudge to do something after you thought 'no way'?!

Thanks for coming by this morning! New Year's blessings to you, to yours!

  4. Beautiful...from beginning to end. Thank you, Linda.

What hopeful expectancy, watching those dark Polaroids develop, ever so gradually, into something beautiful! Rich symbolism here.

May you enjoy the fullness of His beauty this 2014,
    HBHW

    1. Hopeful expectancy. Yes! That gift He has given us, that is the gift we share with others. And you've made a really good point here, HBHW ... the darkness doesn't always fade in a snap, but often slowly but surely does the beauty come into full focus.

Lord, help us not to grow weary and disillusioned in the waiting room ...

  6. And a beautiful word it is! As you know, my word is JOY. But your word beautiful made me think of words still on my mind from Genesis... "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good." I just keelp thinking of how beautiful everything He created is and it has me looking at everything around me with new eyes.
    Blessings to you,
    Beth

  7. Thanks for sharing this, Linda! What a wonderful video telling the story of God's grace and forgiveness . . . and making things new. My one word for 2014 is "Genesis" which captures my theme of New Beginnings.

  8. Oh, how I love your One Word, Linda. Beautiful choice (no pun intended). Love that song too.

    "You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us"
    So glad He does!

  9. Beautiful is such a casual word in a world where the concept of beauty is so distorted- and so I am so glad to see it wielded by God in your writing. Looking forward to your insights on what beautiful truly means.

  10. I don't really do a "word" - and it's rarely a January 1 thing. Usually, I start noticing a theme in the lesson God is teaching me - usually about half way through. I have had the Year of Standing, the Year of the Refreshing - this year (starting July) has been the year of Communication Changing. I always feel like I am in a class - instead of feeling like I am self-motivitating myself - He is leading:) Wishing you a year Beautiful - with Him leading the lesson!

    1. I hear you, my friend ... all that self-motivation is soon out the door and we're left no better off than before! Now ... to be Christ-honoring, Spirit-directed. That's where I want to be ...

I love the theme concept that's worked for you, and look forward to seeing how it plays out in these months ahead!

      Meanwhile, please stay warm, ok?!

  13. The video, and the message it represents, is indeed beautiful. So too are your words, "weaving its powerfully sweet tendril through my expectant heart, wending its way round and round, holding me in a tight embrace of peace-filled assurance." I love that! Thanks for sharing!

I think my word is going to be "less"--less busy work in the church and more time to focus on God.

    1. Less. This is so good, so wise. Who among us hasn't fallen prey to all that church busy work while letting our solitude with God go down the tubes.

      Love this, Nancy ...
