On Craving Understanding

'Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.

Cry out for insight and understanding.

Search for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure.

Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.

For the Lord grants wisdom!  From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

He grants a treasure of good sense to the godly.  He is their shield, protecting those who walk with integrity.

He guards the paths of justice and protects those who are faithful to Him.'
- Proverbs 2:2-8 {NLT}

  1. Thanks for these verses this morning, Linda.

How amazing, His Wisdom -- and that He yearns to share it with His own! The Amplified for v. 7 even says, "He hides away sound and godly Wisdom and stores it for the righteous."

I'm reminded of these lines from Job, full of wonder and mystery...

    Blessings, all,
    GH

    ~

"But where shall Wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?

"Man knows not the price of it; neither is it found in the land of the living...

"It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price of it...

"...for the possession of Wisdom is even above rubies or pearls...

"It is hidden from the eyes of all living..."

[Only] "God understands the way to Wisdom and He knows the place of it. Wisdom is with God alone.

"For He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.

"When He gave to the wind weight and allotted the waters by measure,

"When He made a decree for the rain and a way for the lightning of the thunder,

"Then He saw Wisdom and declared it; He established it, yes, and searched it out for His own use, and He alone possesses it.

"But to man He said, Behold, the reverential and worshipful fear of the Lord -- that is Wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding."

    ~Job 28:12-13,15,18,21,23-28

  3. AS I often say, "Wisdom is a good thing." It's also a desperate "thing" of our present day life, around and about. Your phase of Proverbs is a good one. I need it every day, every moment.

    Thank you for sharing.

  4. What a fabulous image! Reminds me of something my MIL would turn into a watercolor. I was instantly attracted to the lines, "Cry out for insight and understanding. Search for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure." So powerful. I pray I can remember to seek with such zeal and perseverance! Thank you for this tonight!

  9. Dear Linda
My husband and I were talking the other day how wisdom begins with the fear of our Pappa God and common sense. We eventually came to the conclusion that common sense is not so common any more!

    1. Ah, His wisdom is so vastly different than what the world holds to be true, isn't it, Mia. And the less time we spend in sweet solitude with the Wise One and His Word, the shallower our thoughts, our counsel.

As ever, I love that you've dropped by Creekside, my online friend!
