300 Seconds of Writer's Block

Over time it's become part of the rhythm, the rhyme of my week.  This whole 5 Minute Friday thing.  Either hitting the keyboard way late on Thursday night at midnight sharp, or early in the morning as the sun makes its way onto the horizon.  The gypsy girl gives us a word and away we write, fingers flying over keyboards all over the globe, making contact, making sense, weaving together a bit of a story, or some lines of prose.

But I'm sorry, sisters.  I can not for the life of me think what I'm going to do with this word RHYTHM at 7am this morning.  It's just not coming to me.  Not a single line, not a tale to tell.  Nothing to put on the table except my excuses and apologies and feeble explanations.

I guess this is what they call writer's block.  Or what Friday morning looks like after a way too busy week.  So here's my submission, girls.  Kind of like a really poor dish on a lavishly spread buffet, laden with delectable goodies.  Just go ahead and slide it to the back of the table in a darkened corner where no one will notice.  It's ok.

And would someone please be gracious enough to tell me I'm not the only one who's ever had trouble figuring out what to do with a word.

You stumped me, Lisa-Jo!  And now I think I'll go make a cup of caffeinated tea.  A big one.

Better luck next week, Linda.

Five Minute Friday

  1. I think this a perfect rhythm submission because sometimes our beat is off! You drink your tea and enjoy your day and I'll see you again next week. Thanks for stopping by my little corner.

    1. Yep, sometimes our beat IS off! And that's good enough for me!

Thanks, Lindsey, for your encouraging words!

    2. I'm in agreement with Lindsey! This entry reveals a truth about RHYTHM that couldn't be expressed otherwise. Mission accomplished, Linda.

From one who knows writer's block well, and who is so happy to realize (finally!) that it's not my words or wordlessness but God's Word that matters most . . .

      A grateful heart

    3. Amen, Grateful! It's not at all about my wordlessness, but the state of my heart ... and resting in the truth that His Word is always present and alive and active! Sure does put everything into perspective.

  2. You. are. not. alone. On this, you just hadn't found your rhythm yet! ;) But good for you; you went ahead and wrote anyhow. Just that often frees up the brain a bit for the next thing. And you posted. That encourages others (like me) to do the warm-up. When I'm stuck like that I just don't post. Or, lots of times, even write. And I see I really should. Thanks.

    1. Ok ... 45 minutes later I'm coming alive, a huge mug of tea waiting to be savored, some Friday friends to chat with. It's a good day, Sylvia!

  3. Happens all the time...when the words don't come...sometimes its the silence we need. You are not alone in that. Enjoy the tea sound delish. :)

    1. I'm loving that silence this morning, Reta ... and I'm hoping it's not the sound of an empty head!

    1. And I'm getting inspired simply by reading what others have written this morning. Thanks, Lisa!

  5. I laughed this morning! It was a tough one! I just usually wake up, get the word, and then jump into the shower. Only then do I sit at the keyboard! Too funny!

  6. Dear Linda
Every Friday morning when I see Lisa-Jo's word, I ALWAYS think that I cannot possibly write anything on this word. Then I ask Jesus. If He doesn't help me, I probably will never write a word. So you have company, dear friend.
    Much love XX

I'm thankful He is beautifully laden with grace!

  9. I almost froze up on this one, too...it took me probably 30 seconds to get going. Maybe the best thing is to just keep going with the rhythm and participating, even if the words aren't coming...and you did that well! We all have those days! Hugs and happy weekend to you, friend! :)

  13. This is a word I think I could have done something with. I just never had the time to get to it on Friday.
Lisa-Jo has proved prompts that left me stymied many a Friday. You are not alone, sister.

    1. Go for it, girl! And take your time! I'd look forward to seeing what you'd write.

And now that the pressure's off, some cool ideas have come floating through my mind. Oh well ... I'll leave it to you to take it away!
