Musings on Possessions

'... somehow I feel a pronounced urge now to shrink my surroundings, to stick to just a few comfortable rooms, to have less instead of more.  I feel as though I am at the peak of a progression, and from here I should follow another gentle downward slope: smaller, tighter, cleaner, simpler.

No clutter.  Less stuff.

I'm not sure why this is the case.  Maybe it's because I now feel I know the truth about possessions, that they mean or prove or solve nothing.

Stuff is not salvation.'

If you're ready to figure out why you just can't let go of all you've gathered along the way, would you consider asking these 20 simple yet penetrating questions to those objects you grasp so very tightly in your oh-so-weary hands?

These grab me:
  6. Would I miss you (or even notice) if you were gone?

  9. Can someone else make better use of you?

13. Would I rather have the space you take up?

20. Do you make me smile?

A well-placed, spot-on question always deserves an honest response.  And out of that answer, vistas you never imagined can open wide ...

  1. Oh, these are good. Sometimes I want to start over--just chuck it all. Now that I am older I hold much more loosely to the stuff. But I still have years to shed! And it's hard work, sorting and shedding. Good thoughts here, Linda.

  2. I hear you, Laura ... my hands seem to be opening, my fingers are spreading wider, I feel free-er to give.

The older I get, the more I truly realize that you can't take it with you ...

Welcome to the table, friend!

This is where we gather and hang out. I'd love for you to pull up a chair and jump right into the conversation. Or simply say 'hello.'

l'll be dropping in to visit you sometime soon ...
