A Sweet Surprise

Don't you love those serendipitous little surprises that pop up seemingly out of nowhere?  A thought-filled note or card ... with something tucked inside.  An out of the blue phone call.  A tiny gift bag left on a doorstep.  A handful of freshly picked wildflowers.

Some might call them random acts of kindness, but I view them as unexpected pockets of delight, sweet gifts that spring from the hand of our gracious, loving God.

To give them, to receive them is one of the joys that makes our lives sparkle.

So thanks to Michael and Sheila over at Longings End for sending the Genuine Blogger Award this way today.  It was a sweet surprise.  And all I can say is "likewise, my friends" as you continue to put pen to paper, sharing from hearts that brim over with love for each other and love for the One who brought you together.

Cathy Craig Neil writes, “Genuine Bloggers?… To me as a Christian, it is when we believe in the Truth of what we post or in what we say when we leave a comment. God knows our hearts and even if we don’t get it right to start with He knows when we will even before we do. He delights in those who we seek to uplift Him because He knows we will be blessed for doing so, He created us that way and whatever we do for Him when it is genuine is valued, appreciated and rewarded. How good is that!”

We all blog for different reasons, and though I've never fancied myself a writer, I've got to tell you that each day I'm filled with gratitude at the opportunities that have emerged in this season of my life.  As a pastoral counselor, life coach, and spiritual director, sharing this rather unconventional potpourri of discoveries, musings, and resources has been a sweet, unexpected blessing that has brought a great sense of joyful fulfillment.

Your suggestions spark my curiosity, your comments make my day, and the Lord keeps opening doors, just a bit at a time.  I've asked Him to do that, and He is graciously answering my prayers in ways that make me smile.  Because when all is said and done, all I really wanted to do was make it my "goal to please Him" {2 Corinthians 5:9}.

If you're sitting there right about now, despondently saying, "well, where's my sweet surprise?," all I can do is gently encourage you to take the time at the end of each day to sit with God and ask Him to show you the blessings He's passed on to you during the last 24 hours.  All the fragrant gifts, rich joys, and unexpected bounties that you haven't noticed.  I do believe He will share those with you.  Because loving fathers always long to lavish gifts on their appreciative children {Psalm 103:13}.

Give yourself the sweet surprise of 2 weeks ...
Linda
