Got $5?

The power of saving every $5 bill you receive is making the rounds again. The concept took wings back in 2008 when a woman extolled the virtues of tucking every $5 bill she received into a zipped pocket in her wallet. She reportedly accumulated $12,000 in 3 years.

Now I'm not saying you'll save thousands of dollars. But you might want to give this a try. Let's get creative! Money's tight these days. What you glean every month could be used to whittle down those credit card bills. Enable you to spring for a much-needed night out. Or be given to someone in desperate need.

Save for a year? You'll probably take care of Christmas expenses. Or be able to take a bit of a vacation. Or roll the money into a Roth IRA. Or extravagantly bless someone's socks off in ways you never thought possible.

What do you think? Willing to give it a try?

  1. $910! Nine months after this challenge was posted, that's how much the two of us have saved! This plan sure has worked for us.
